QUALIFICATIONS FOR VOLUNTEER MEMBERS
  All Volunteer member candidates must be a minimum of 18-years old and have completed high school or an equivalent standard of education (GED).

  The Los Pinos Fire Protection District reserves the right to limit applicants with specific qualifications including but not limited to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

  Volunteer member applicants shall submit an application through the department’s administrative assistant. Volunteer member applicants must hold a valid Colorado Drivers License. A selection process shall be developed and approved by the Fire Chief.

  At a minimum, each applicant shall be subject to a driving and background check, participate in an oral interview process, and participate in a ride along activity with a station crew.

  Upon completion of the entry level training, the Volunteer member has three choices:

  Becoming a cross-trained dual-role Firefighter/EMT with the goal of obtaining a NWCG Firefighter 2 and Colorado Firefighter 1 certification, as well as a valid American Safety and Health Institute CPR card and valid EMT certification.

  Becoming a trained Structural/Wildland Firefighter with the goal of obtaining a NWCG Firefighter 2 and Colorado Firefighter 1 Certification. This position also requires obtaining a valid American Safety and Health Institute CPR card and First Responder certification.

  Becoming a trained Medical Responder with the goal of obtaining a valid American Safety and Health Institute CPR card and First Responder certification or obtain a valid EMT certification. This position also requires a basic structural/wildland fire suppression orientation.

  The Fire Chief reserves the right to retest or release any Volunteer recruit based on skill, knowledge, attitude, or aptitude level. All position requirements including but not limited to training, duty assignments, conduct, and work schedules shall be thoroughly explained to each Volunteer applicant prior to acceptance into the Volunteer program.
