The Los Pinos Fire Protection District

The primary mission of the Los Pinos Fire Protection District is to provide emergency and non-emergency services for the protection of life and property in LaPlata and Archuleta County, Colorado. The department provides 24-hour emergency response to a wide variety of critical situations, including fires, explosions, hazardous materials incidents, medical emergencies, accidents and miscellaneous public assistance requests.

Fire Suppression

Engine, Ladder, Tanker, and Rescue Units are utilized for emergency response. Command Officers operate a well-organized emergency scene; utilize an incident command system, status boards, and establish a clear accountability system. These procedures ensure an immediate response to the emergency, increased citizen protection, and improved firefighter safety.

Emergency Medical Services

The Los Pinos Fire Protection District currently has a total of four ambulances. Two of these provide service at the Advanced Life Support Level. Responding units perform a patient assessment at the scene and provide treatment as necessary, such as controlling bleeding, applying splints or bandages, assist breathing, perform CPR, administer oxygen, start IV's, administer drugs and defibrillate in cases of cardiac arrest.

Technical Rescue Services

The Los Pinos Fire Protection District has a number of members trained to deal with heavy and tactical rescue situations. With the equipment carried on our Heavy Rescue Unit, these members are able to respond, plan, and execute operations including, but not limited to; High & Low Angle Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, and Swift Water Rescue.

Hazardous Materials Decontamination

The Fire District provides support to the Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team in the way of Decontamination. Two agencies in the region, the Montezuma County Fire Chiefs Association and the Los Pinos Fire Protection District received decon equipment from a grant to provide this service to the team.
